Background

 

Henning and Johan Throne-Holst’s Foundation was set up through a donation from the Marabou company in 1976. The purpose of the Foundation is to promote scientific research into nutritional sciences in Sweden and Norway. The purpose is fulfilled by giving grants to Nordic PhDs or PhD students for studies at outstanding research centers outside their home country.  Support can also be given to make it possible for outstanding international researchers to work in Swedish or Norwegian research groups.

 

Grants are given every year. In total 1 – 2 million SEK are given yearly.  

Application for grants 2012

 

During 2012 support can be given to:

 

*      Grants to PhDs from Sweden or Norway for post doc studies in nutritional sciences at outstanding research centers outside their home country. The grants can be given within 6 years after the doctor’s thesis have been defended. The grant is intended to cover the postdoc’s costs for living abroad and travel during a period of about one year.

*      Grants for PhD students within nutritional sciences who would benefit from working at an outstanding research center abroad during 3 – 12 months. The grants are intended to cover the student’s extra costs for living and travel due to the studies abroad. The student should be registered as a PhD student at a university Sweden or Norway.

*      Support for an outstanding international scientist in nutritional sciences who is prepared to work in a Swedish or Norwegian research group and stimulate the quality of the group’s research. Application for this support should be made jointly by the Nordic research group leader and the visiting scientist. The support is intended to cover the visiting scientist’s salary, travel and extra living costs for a period of 1 – 6 months.

 

“Nutritional sciences” means research that is relevant for human nutrition and metabolism.

 

The grants should cover the student’s actual costs for living and travel and other extra costs due to the studies abroad. There is no tax on the grants. They are not equal to salary and fees for social security are not paid on the grants. Costs associated with the research project are not covered by the Foundation.

 

The application which can be made in Swedish, Norwegian or English should contain:

 

*      Research plan

*      Budget (estimated costs for travelling to the place of study, living costs, insurance costs etc at the place of study. Costs directly associated with the studies and the project such as material, literature etc as well as repayment of study loans or other loans or costs for the apartment or house in the home country should not be included in the budget.)

*      Invitation from the institute/department where the studies will take place

*      Support from the head of the home department

*      CV

*      Filled in application form
